Project Goals/Objectives:

  1. Decrease RN turnover rate by >10%
  2. Increase Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool aggregate score from 3.90 to 4.20.
  3. Decrease the bottom box of the HWEAT Appropriate Staffing standard by >10%
  4. Decrease Oldenburg Burnout score by 15% (achieve < />
  5. Decrease the number of patients that arrive at the unit during protected time by 15%

Project Outcomes:

  1. Decreased RN turnover 67%
  2. Increased HWEAT aggregate score from 3.90 to 4.02
  3. Decreased the bottom box of HWEAT Appropriate Staffing standard by 19% (33% to 14%)
  4. Decreased Oldenburg Burnout score from 43.44 to 39.58 (9%)
  5. Decreased the number of patients that arrive at the unit during protected time by 35%
  6. The decrease in RN turnover resulted in potential annualized fiscal savings of $837,943.

Project Overview:

The project achieved its primary goal of decreasing RN turnover by decreasing admissions at change of shift, except during hospital code capacity. This was achieved through stakeholder meetings including the Chief Nursing Officer and leaders in the Emergency Department and Medical-Surgical area.
