Project Goals/Objectives

  1. To decrease mortality related to mechanical ventilation
  2. To decrease the incidence of ventilator-associated events
  3. To decrease ventilator days
  4. To decrease length of stay

Project Outcomes

  1. Decreased mortality of MICU patients with mechanical ventilation 57 percent
  2. Decreased the number of ventilator days 33 percent
  3. These outcomes resulted in a projected annual fiscal impact of $2,070,000.

The AACN CSI Academy program supports change projects based on quality improvement methods. Although CSI teams seek to ensure linkage between their project and clinical/fiscal outcomes, data cannot be solely attributed to the project and are estimations of impact.
