Project Overview:

To increase our unit's efficiency in communication, we worked to increase the use of the M-R-C-N tool within the electronic health record (EHR). The intervention is a digital communication tool that allows nursing staff to communicate with providers and ancillary staff regarding patient care. This includes reporting critical lab results, diagnostic testing orders and completion, etc. We were able to increase the number of uses and users throughout our project. After initial hesitation to utilize the tool was addressed by the CSI team with the additional benefits of timely charting that easily is incorporated into the established workflow, staff began using the tool and reported its efficiency worked well.

While there is not a direct fiscal impact we could tie to our project, we did see an increase in our Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores.
