Project Goals/Objectives

  1. To prevent and reduce the incidence of delirium in the ICU and Intermediate Care Unit
  2. To educate staff about and begin using the Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU) delirium assessment tool
  3. To educate staff on and begin using the ABCDE bundle

Project Outcomes

  1. Reduced mean ventilator days 0.3 day overall
  2. Reduced mean ventilator days 1.1 days when excluding independently rapid or prolonged extubations
  3. These outcomes resulted in a projected annual fiscal impact of $718,300.

The AACN CSI Academy program supports change projects based on quality improvement methods. Although CSI teams seek to ensure linkage between their project and clinical/fiscal outcomes, data cannot be solely attributed to the project and are estimations of impact.
