Session Summary

This session provides an evidence-based review of pharmacologic agents used to support sleep and circadian health in hospitalized adults. We explore commonly prescribed hypnotics and sedatives, including benzodiazepines, non-benzodiazepine receptor agonists, dexmedetomidine, melatonin, and orexin antagonists, discussing their indications, risks, and relevance to different patient populations. Wake-promoting agents such as modafinil and caffeine, with attention to their use in reducing ICU-related hypersomnia are included. Case studies illustrate key concepts and links to patient outcomes. Pharmacology content = 90%
