Session Summary

Effective hemodynamic monitoring is essential for timely recognition and management of cardiovascular instability in critically ill pediatric patients. This session provides APRNs with a comprehensive overview of hemodynamic assessment tools, including invasive and noninvasive techniques and their application in the pediatric intensive care setting. This advanced-level presentation provides the attendees with case-based discussions to exercise the application of hemodynamic data in guiding clinical decision-making and to optimize patient outcomes. Pharmacology content = 20%

Objectives

  • Describe and differentiate among non-invasive, minimally invasive and invasive hemodynamic monitoring modalities commonly used in PICU.
  • Identify indications, limitations and potential complications of various monitoring techniques.
  • Interpret hemodynamic data to guide resuscitation, vasoactive medication titration, and clinical decision-making in varying PICU scenarios.
