Session Summary

Biventricular failure presents a complex hemodynamic crisis requiring rapid recognition and coordinated response. This session explores the pathophysiology, clinical signs and monitoring strategies for left and right heart failure occurring together. Through case-based discussion, nurses learn how to assess, communicate and support patients requiring inotropes, pulmonary vasodilators or mechanical circulatory support. Emphasis is on timely interventions to prevent organ failure and improve outcomes.

Objectives

  • Assess hemodynamic parameters such as CVP, PAP, SvO2, and lactate to detect early signs of biventricular failure.
  • Prepare appropriate nursing interventions during escalating biventricular dysfunction, including titration of inotropes and vasopressors.
  • Manage patients on mechanical circulatory support, recognizing complications and escalation triggers.
