Session Summary

Preserving patients’ and nurses’ dignity and integrity are cornerstones of ethical care. Step into two ICU-based, choose-your-own-adventure case studies that bring threats to dignity, moral distress, and moral resilience to life. Guided by a nurse ethicist and a frontline ICU nurse, this interactive session draws on the Mindful Ethical Practice and Resilience Academy (MEPRA) principles to explore how everyday decisions can erode—or restore—our moral integrity. Discover how moral resilience is cultivated through mindfulness, reflection on core values and everyday acts of courage.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate how dignity violations contribute to moral suffering and compromised integrity in nursing practice.
  • Define how dignity-preserving care fosters alignment with personal and professional integrity.
  • Describe how applying MEPRA principles may cultivate an ethical climate to support patients and sustain nurses.
