Session Summary

Consider what qualities make up a best supporting actor in your favorite movie, or what the scarecrow, tin man and cowardly lion do to help Dorothy on her journey. By using the AACN Synergy Model, we can assess what our patients need and who they need us to be. The Jungian archetypes identified in acting are very similar to the different hats we wear every day as nurses. One patient might need the caregiver archetype today; another may need the wise sage tomorrow. Learn how to identify beyond the tasks of physically taking care of patients to becoming a memorable character in their healthcare journey.

Objectives

  • Appraise the AACN synergy model as framework to provide not only technical care to our patients but emotional care, as well.
  • Use AACN synergy competencies to assess needs and use characteristics of supporting actor roles to support nurses through their journey.
  • Practice integrating these skills into everyday interactions with your patients.
