Session Summary

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a rare but rapidly fatal condition that demands swift recognition and intervention. This dynamic session immerses attendees in real-world cases where early identification and critical decision-making determine survival. Participants explore the subtle warning signs of TSS, advanced management strategies, including the use of new vasopressors, and the unique challenges of transport from resource-limited facilities. This session equips nurses with the knowledge and confidence to act decisively in high-stakes situations.

Objectives

  • Describe the pathophysiology of TSS and its impact on organ systems, leading to rapid deterioration.
  • Identify the early signs and symptoms of TSS to facilitate timely intervention in prehospital and critical care settings.
  • Explain evidence-based management strategies, including fluid resuscitation, vasopressor support and ventilatory interventions.
