Session Summary

Having a healthy work environment entails more than stellar safety practices. Skilled communication plays a vital role in job satisfaction, and the ability to professionally navigate uncomfortable scenarios affects patient experience, employee experience and impacts nurse retention. Learn how to improve your frontline nurses’ ability to engage in difficult conversations by discovering effective strategies and benefitting from our lessons learned. Develop a train-the-trainer initiative at your organization to enhance nurses’ communication skills and promote a healthy work environment that supports nurse retention.

Objectives

  • Identify difficult conversations frontline nurses frequently face and evidence-based communication tools to support positive outcomes.
  • Describe the train-the-trainer method of taking communication tools and practice sessions to nurses on their units versus the classroom.
  • Compare tactics that strengthened the initiative and factors that provided learning opportunities for more effective future initiatives.
