Session Summary

If you’re feeling tired, assume your patient is, too. Sleep disturbances are common among critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and can lead to negative patient outcomes. Come review the newly updated 2025 Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility and Sleep Disruption (PADIS) guidelines. Together we can use these recommendations to collaborate, share ideas and develop innovative strategies to improve sleep in the ICU. Everyone deserves—and needs—a good night’s sleep.

Objectives

  • Review and apply the revised 2025 SCCM PADIS guidelines to the critical care environment.
  • Describe how increased delirium and poor sleep hygiene can negatively impact patient outcomes.
  • Outline innovative strategies and interventions to improving sleep environments in the critical care setting.
