Session Summary

In the U.S. and globally, abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) pose a substantial health concern. Significant morbidity and mortality are associated with AAA, especially if the patient presents with a ruptured AAA. This session reviews the pathogenesis of abdominal aneurysms, surgical repair options and associated vascular complications of AAA. These include colon ischemic, renal failure and lower extremity ischemia. This intermediate session provides assessment tips for vascular complications of AAA and reviews several case studies.

Objectives

  • Describe two potential complications after surgical or endovascular repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
  • Outline the 6P’s of acute limb ischemia.
  • Identify the testing modality most sensitive to diagnosis mesenteric ischemia.
