Session Summary

This session explores one MICU team’s use of the Synergy Model through a five-pillar onboarding process to improve preceptorship outcomes, reducing turnover from 34.8% to 5% and increasing formal preceptors by 171%. Real-world data and replicable strategies equip nurses with tools to transform their own onboarding processes and support nurse retention, confidence and long-term engagement through preceptor empowerment, structured check-ins and individualized support.

Objectives

  • Describe the five pillars of a structured onboarding model and how each supports preceptor and new-hire success.
  • Analyze the relationship between preceptor empowerment and new-nurse retention in a high-acuity setting.
  • Identify measurable outcomes linked to structured onboarding strategies.
