Session Summary

This session explores how sleep, cognition, psychological symptoms and quality of life change in heart transplant and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) recipients during the first 3 months postdischarge. Key recovery challenges, interrelated health outcomes and patient experiences are discussed, offering insights to improve multidimensional care for these growing populations.

Objectives

  • Describe early recovery changes in sleep, cognition, psychological symptoms and quality of life in heart transplant and LVAD recipients.
  • Evaluate associations among changes in sleep and changes in cognition, psychological symptoms and quality of life over time.
  • Discuss implications of findings for nursing practice to improve multidimensional recovery in heart transplant and LVAD recipients.
