Session Summary

This session helps critical care and progressive care nurses identify and care for patients with cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Once rare, these conditions are increasingly common in our patient population. They increase complexity of care and cause uncertainty. Improve comprehension and learn the diagnostic approach, treatment, monitoring, red flags, nursing implications and best practices when faced with these conditions.

Objectives

  • Describe the pathophysiology and unique cardiac manifestations of these less common conditions.
  • Identify common diagnostic tools used and their relevance to nursing care and monitoring.
  • Cite evidence-based pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions to optimize care.
