Session Summary

This interactive session examines workplace violence as a pervasive issue in critical care, highlighting implications for the nursing workforce and organizational strategies to prevent, respond and recover. Participants gain insights into recovery and resiliency through a critical care safety event case study from nursing leadership, with hospital police perspectives applied to facilitate recovery and develop resilience. Nursing leadership, hospital security and policy implications are discussed.

  • Analyze current state of workplace violence nationally and internationally, focusing on implications for healthcare workers and leaders.
  • Identify organizational strategies to address workplace violence prevention, response and recovery.
  • Describe collaborative strategies to promote healthcare worker resilience after experiencing workplace violence.
