Session Summary

ICU survival rates continue to improve, but typically we don't know what happens to patients and families after discharge. This Distinguished Research Lecture focuses on the transition from surviving critical illness to thriving in recovery. Dr. Boehm presents research illustrating how evidence-based programs—e.g. the ABCDEF bundle, telemedicine interventions and peer support—transform outcomes for ICU survivors experiencing postintensive care syndrome (PICS). Attendees gain practical strategies to implement sustainable recovery programs.

Objectives

  • Analyze evidence-based components of successful ICU recovery programs that address post-intensive care syndrome (PICS).
  • Discover telemedicine and peer support strategies to extend recovery care beyond traditional healthcare boundaries.
  • Identify implementation barriers and evidence-based solutions for establishing sustainable post-ICU recovery programs.
