Session Summary

One out of 14 deaths occurring in the hospital is due to non-ventilator associated hospital acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP)—despite it being a preventable healthcare-associated infection. Learn how a 24-bed progressive care unit’s improves true collaboration between nurse and nursing assistant while also encouraging early ambulation and preventative oral care in adult patients to decrease the prevalence of NV-HAPs unit-wide.

Objectives

  • Assess the risk factors of NV-HAP.
  • Demonstrate methods for promoting oral care compliance.
  • Compose a multidisciplinary team approach to decrease the risk for NV-HAP.
