Session Summary

AACN’s 2005 Healthy Work Environment (HWE) initiative identifies six evidence-based standards reflective of a healthy work environment (HWE), using the validated Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool (HWEAT) to measure their validity. As of 2024, the renamed HWEAT-Team boasts greater sensitivity and specificity. Finally, after a multisite study in 2024/2025, the current tool reflects reliability and validity testing for interprofessional use. In this session, we present results and discuss how these data can be applied to practice.

Objectives

  • Describe the importance of healthy work environments.
  • Identify how differences in role and generation affect one’s own work environment.
  • Outline how the HWEAT-Team supports team-based evaluation to target improvement initiatives.
