Session Summary

The AACN Level of Evidence (LOE) workgroup revised the 2014 LOE tool to support member needs to translate rapidly evolving evidence for nursing practice. This important session presents three new tools: a revised LOE hierarchy including both research and non-research sources, a new critical appraisal tool to identify the strength of evidence and a synthesis method to inform decision-making for evidence-based practice. Members of the AACN LOE workgroup present the new AACN LOE tools, discuss supporting evidence that informed the revisions and apply case studies using the new tools.

Objectives

  • Review the new AACN LOE tools including terminology for appraising and synthesizing evidence.
  • Explain the research that informed the decisions behind the new AACN LOE tools.
  • Apply case studies using the new AACN LOE tools in clinical practice, or as a contributor, author, or reader of AACN products.
