Session Summary

While thousands of victims experience hospitalizations after abuse, assault, intimate partner violence (IPV) or trafficking, many are not identified as such and go on to continue experiencing abuse. This training dispels myths about multiple types of violence and provides foundational knowledge for healthcare workers to begin bridging the gaps that exist in many cases. The education includes indicators of abuse, assault, IPV and human trafficking, case studies of victims, why people are vulnerable to exploitation and best practices in reporting, providing resources and being advocates in healthcare.

Objectives

  • Identify signs of abuse, assault, IPV and human trafficking in patients in a hospital setting.
  • Apply knowledge of how to respond to patients who may have experienced violence.
  • Explain current best practices in screening, reporting, resources and advocacy for patients who have experienced violence.
