Session Summary

The Three Wishes Project is an intervention whose purpose is to enhance and individualize end-of-life care in the hospital setting by offering patients and families unique “wishes.” Each wish is tailored to the specific patient and may include memorabilia for family, experiences for the patient, or improvements to the hospital room atmosphere. These wishes also help to provide closure and assist in preventing emotional burnout related to patient deaths. Attendees learn about implementation of this project, hear about real-life examples, and understand the benefits of its usage.

Objectives

  • Apply the Three Wishes Program as an end-of-life intervention.
  • Identify the impact the Three Wishes Project may have on staff mental health and emotional outcomes after patient death.
  • Explain how a unit may benefit from use of the Three Wishes Project.
