Session Summary

TeleICU represents a relatively new care delivery model for critically ill patients. Although published guidelines and consensus statements exist to support teleICU programs, virtual nursing onboarding and practices vary, particularly regarding the onboarding of nurses and the provision of continuing education for nurses in this role. This presentation provides a stepwise approach to successfully onboarding and implementing the virtual nurse’s role in a teleICU program, as well as creating continuing education for seasoned teleICU nurses.

Objectives

  • Develop a teleICU orientation and education curriculum designed for onboarding clinical nurses.
  • Identify gaps in the critical care nursing knowledge base for individual nurses and develop a sustainable solution to address these gaps.
  • Predict challenges when implementing the teleICU curriculum.
