Session Summary

This session dives deep into all things sheath. CVICU Nurse Educators provide an overview of sheath assessment, removal and monitoring, including sheath physiology and common complications and real-life case studies. You see our educational strategies in practice, incorporating our in-person sheath sim limb and step-by-step sheath pull checklist used to achieve competency. In addition, learn how we came together across three hospitals to standardize best practice.

  • Describe basic sheath anatomy, placement locations and purposes.
  • Identify common complications, treatment interventions and what educational tools can be used to prepare nurses to care for these patients.
  • Summarize how to standardize best practice for sheath removal, monitoring and documentation.
