Why apply for a Beacon Unit of Excellence award? Patient care units that achieve a Beacon award have been shown to positively impact patient outcomes and nursing sensitive indicators. This session is designed to share supportive literature, identify examples of innovative quality improvement projects that led to achieving two GOLD awards for an ICU and IMC, and to increase the audience’s interest and confidence in applying for Beacon. You can do it too!

Objectives

  • Describe the literature on the positive impact that Beacon Units of Excellence have on patient care outcomes.
  • Identify several key innovative projects implemented to improve patient outcomes.
  • Explain a case study outlining a best practice for treating newly septic inpatients in a timely manner.
