Session Summary
Learn about sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) using a virtual reality headset. SA-AKI is a life-threatening organ system dysfunction diagnosed within 7 days of sepsis diagnosis and associated with increased length of stay, mortality and long-term disability. Treatment modalities are individualized to the patient’s physiologic responses and may include fluid resuscitation and/or vasopressor therapy to restore tissue perfusion. When needed, extracorporeal treatments, such as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), may be utilized to improve acid-base and electrolyte balance and to filter inflammatory mediators and metabolites.
