Session Summary

High quality research is foundational to excellence in critical care clinical practice. American Journal of Critical Care (AJCC) is AACN’s scientific journal and is a member benefit for all AACN members. In this session, AJCC Editors in Chief provide an annual overview of the journal. Publication trends over the past year are discussed; examples include balance of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research; representation of specialty areas and author demographics. Themes that emerged among research papers, editorials and invited commentaries are explored. The Editors highlight individual research papers, engaging the audience in discussion of the significance and application of the research reported.

Objectives

  • Discuss trends in critical care research published by AJCC in the past year.
  • Identify themes in AJCC papers, editorials, and commentaries that emerged in the past year.
  • Critique highly significant research papers, using exemplars selected by AJCC Editors in Chief.
