Making a Difference: Diarrhea Management Program

Session Summary

This session describes an interdisciplinary approach to managing diarrhea in critically ill patients. Attendees will learn the burden of diarrhea and C. diff in the U.S. A structured protocol is presented, including a standardized definition, pharmacist and dietician consults, assessment for intra-abdominal complications, and evaluation of other causes. Participants also learn the C. diff testing process and how results guide clinical decisions.

  • Describe the burden of C diff in the US critically ill patient population.
  • List two advantages of an interdisciplinary approach to the management of diarrhea including the understanding of C diff testing.
