Session Summary
This session introduces the evolving paradigm of occlusion myocardial infarction (OMI) and contrasts it with the traditional STEMI framework. Participants will review current guideline-based STEMI criteria, examine their limitations, and explore contemporary evidence supporting an OMI-focused approach to ECG interpretation. High-risk ECG patterns associated with acute coronary occlusion will be reviewed, including hyperacute T-waves, de Winter patterns, and posterior infarction patterns.
Objectives
- Differentiate STEMI vs OMI paradigms and explain why guideline STEMI criteria can miss acute coronary occlusion.
- Identify high-risk OMI ECG patterns (hyperacute T-waves, de Winter, posterior MI) and choose appropriate emergent actions.
