Session Summary

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a rapidly expanding tool used in prehospital and acute care settings where knowledge in image acquisition and interpretation empowers nurses to improve patient outcomes and solidify their role as a trusted member of the interdisciplinary care team. Despite increased adoption, many nurses lack structured hands-on training to bridge the gap from knowledge to application. This session combines evidence-based instruction with interactive learning and games to reinforce key POCUS concepts.

Objectives

  • Correctly identify the three most common ultrasound probe types and match each to its appropriate clinical use with 95% accuracy.
  • Analyze ultrasound images to distinguish between normal and abnormal pulmonary findings in at least 4 out of 5 cases correctly.
  • Demonstrate probe placement and identify at least 3 of 4 standard cardiac ultrasound windows on a simulator/model with 100% completion.
