About Patricia

Patricia G. Morton, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, FAAN joined the University of Utah in August 2013 as the Dean of the College of Nursing. She is a tenured professor and holds the Louis H. Peery Presidential Endowed Chair. Prior to her position at the University of Utah, Dr. Morton was a member of the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Nursing and served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She also practiced as an acute care nurse practitioner at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Morton is an educator and scholar and is known for her work in critical care nursing and nursing education. She has authored three textbooks, numerous book chapters, and over 50 journal articles. She has served on the editorial board of six nursing journals and for seven years was the editor of the journal AACN Clinical Issues: Advanced Practice in Acute and Critical Care sponsored by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Currently, Dr. Morton is the editor of the Journal of Professional Nursing sponsored by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She also has presented many papers at regional, national, and international conferences. In recognition of her many accomplishments, Dr. Morton was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 1999.
