Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Many children who sustain an in-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest do not survive. When resuscitation teams rely on visual assessment to determine the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), they overestimate chest compression rate, depth, and proportion of time in the target range. Emerging evidence has shown that adherence to American Heart Association (AHA) CPR quality metrics improves during simulated arrests when resuscitation teams incorporate a feedback device and a quality CPR coach.

Objectives

  • Describe the role of a Quality CPR Coach on resuscitation teams.
  • Identify the internal data metrics and data sources that indicate high-quality CPR delivery.
  • Identify the external data metrics and data sources that indicate high-quality CPR delivery.
