Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This review describes differences between palliative care for adult patients and palliative care for pediatric patients, both generally and in the intensive care unit; highlights ethical considerations for pediatric intensive care unit patients by using illustrative cases; and examines the impact of these ethical considerations on decision-making for children and their families.

Objectives

Describe features of palliative care for children that are different from palliative care practices for adult patients in the ICU.
Describe two ethical topics in palliative care that require special analysis for the pediatric patient.
Describe key components of the shared decision-making model preferred for pediatric ICU patients.
