Thromboelastography provides valuable qualitative and quantitative information about a patient’s coagulation status at the bedside. Its rapid evaluation of coagulation abnormalities allows for targeted interventions to correct these abnormalities and optimize the clinical status of the patient. The use of thromboelastography has increased in patients who have clinical conditions with challenging hemostatic profiles, such as trauma, medication-induced coagulopathy, acute and chronic liver failure, cardiothoracic surgery, and more.

Objectives

Compare how thromboelastography works versus traditional monitoring tests.
Interpret thromboelastography values and what therapeutic interventions may be warranted.
Identify and analyze areas with growing literature on the use of thromboelastography.
