Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes
Acute and critical care nurses require specific knowledge and practice drills to effectively respond to an MSI. Specific areas of knowledge include bleeding control, recognition of life-threatening injuries, triage, evidence collection, ballistics, and risk factors for violence. The top 4 recommendations for acute and critical care nurses are as follows: all nurses should be trained on Stop the Bleed techniques; all nurses should receive education on MSI prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery; nurses should participate in active shooter drills incorporating the run-hide-fight concept; and every code cart and automated external defibrillator should have a Stop the Bleed kit.Learners must complete the entire activity and the associated evaluation AND read Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes. No partial credit will be awarded.
