Activity Summary
The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Stony Brook Medicine had 48 pressure injuries, 20 were medical device pressure injuries. To decrease medical device pressure injuries the CSI Academy team implemented a project designed to educate staff about interventions to implement into their nursing care to prevent medical device pressure injuries.
The team met with Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurse, Nurse Scientist, Respiratory Therapists, and discussed evidence-based articles related to device-related pressure injuries to drive our research/ideas for our project. The team distributed a skin pre-survey for staff to complete with 85% compliance to obtain baseline data of our staff’s knowledge regarding pressure injuries.
