Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS): From Books to the Bedside to the Boardroom

Activity Summary

The essential responsibilities, activities and skills required for the new and experienced CNS provide a variety of opportunities, and sometimes challenges. This intermediate session examines successful strategies for transitioning into the role, ensuring a thorough orientation, determining specific needs of the assigned population, nurses and the hospital and strategies to guarantee ongoing growth. Addressing and overcoming challenges is discussed.

Describe the elements needed to ensure a successful transition into the CNS role.
Identify goals and strategies to create your best future and be unstoppable in your 1, 5 and 10 year plan.
Discuss attributes needed in a mentor to help you achieve your goals.
