Activity Summary

In today’s healthcare systems, critical care nurse turnover continues to climb. Strategies to improve nurse retention are essential. This foundational session describes AACN’s Healthy Work Environment (HWE) Standards and how each relate to patient and nurse outcomes. Further, specific examples of how to implement each standard through case studies is reviewed. Finally, we outline ways to convey to your organization how implementing HWE standards can improve nurse retention and promote positive patient outcomes.

  • Outline the relationship between AACN’s HWE Standards and patient and nurse outcomes.
  • Identify an implementation strategy for each AACN HWE Standard.
