Activity Summary

Therapeutic humor during a pandemic does not lighten the gravity of the situation, but it can contribute to the resiliency of nurses and provide an outlet during periods of increased stress. Chaos and confusion can cause times of increased stress but it can also be a time when nurses utilize creativity and problem-solving skills to meet the challenges of any situation. Therapeutic humor can mitigate the negative impact of psychological and physiologic stressors and improve outcomes.

Objectives

  • Value the role of therapeutic humor as a coping skill during a global pandemic.
  • Enumerate the benefits of therapeutic humor skills in creative problem solving and implementation strategies.
  • Demonstrate appropriate therapeutic humor skills and identify resources available for creating and sustain healthy work environments.
