Activity Summary

Come and hear how to prepare or coach others to prepare for the PCCN or PCCN-K certification exam. This session highlights the results of the progressive care nurse practice or job analysis survey completed by AACN Certification Corporation in 2018. The survey results are the basis for the 2019 PCCN and PCCN-K test plan. Progressive care nurses and PCCN/PCCN-K certified RNS and APRNs are found in multiple settings providing direct care for or influencing the care of acutely ill patients and their families. Based on the PCCN practice analysis, volunteer committees write and approve questions or items for the PCCN certification exam. Participants learn how to volunteer for exam development committees. The presenter describes the development of the PCCN and PCCN-K certification exam based on the practice analysis survey.

Objectives

  • Describe the work of the progressive care nurse based on the survey of practice.
  • Discuss the vital role of volunteers in the certification exam development process.
  • Consider who would be eligible for progressive care nurse certification in one's own organization.
