Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This session explores myths and stereotypes about the LGBT+ population, addresses real and perceived barriers to appropriate care and discusses strategies to create inclusive environments for LGBT+ patients. Using LGBT+ patient and staff stories, practical strategies for culturally competent care are addressed at the staff and organizational level.


  • Evaluate common myths and stereotypes preventing effective relationships and communication between LGBT+ patients and healthcare providers.
  • Discuss unique healthcare issues and concerns within the LGBT+ patient population and proactive interventions to address these concerns.
  • Identify evidence-based strategies to create an inclusive environment and improve communication for LGBT+ patients in clinical practice.
