Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This session explores myths and stereotypes about the LGBT+ population, addresses real and perceived barriers to appropriate care and discusses strategies to create inclusive environments for LGBT+ patients. Using LGBT+ patient and staff stories, practical strategies for culturally competent care are addressed at the staff and organizational level.

Objectives

Evaluate common myths and stereotypes preventing effective relationships and communication between LGBT+ patients and healthcare providers.
Discuss unique healthcare issues and concerns within the LGBT+ patient population and proactive interventions to address these concerns.
Identify evidence-based strategies to create an inclusive environment and improve communication for LGBT+ patients in clinical practice.
