Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Critical care nurses see patients with fever on a daily basis, but the culture regarding fever evaluation and management is changing. Having advanced understanding of the mechanisms and ramifications of fever is essential in identifying causation and determining effective evidence-based interventions. This session explores causes of fever in the ICU and analyzes the biologic mechanisms which result in fever. Nurses learn current, cutting edge assessment strategies and how and when to intervene.

Objectives

  • Examine the risk factors for varied patient populations for the onset of fever.
  • Describe the most common biologic mechanisms resulting in fever in the critically ill.
  • Identify evidence-based strategies to address fever in the critical care patient in the ICU.
