Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Using evidence-based practice (EBP) frameworks to guide practice should be the norm and quality improvement (QI) initiatives should build from best evidence. Often, EBP is considered an additional task to complete and QI initiatives fail to incorporate best evidence in the quest to improve outcomes. This session provides advanced knowledge and user-friendly approaches to facilitate improvements in practice when both QI and EBP principles are used together.

Objectives

  • Identify two quality improvement tools which can be used to evaluate practice trends.
  • Discuss the benefits of combining evidence-based practice frameworks with quality improvement initiatives.
  • Outline two strategies to overcome challenges in practice for successful implementation of EBP and QI initiatives in the clinical setting.
