The importance of addressing the health of the nurse work environment cannot be overstated. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated systemic issues that have existed in the nurse work environment for decades. The AACN 5th National Survey contains compelling data about the health of the work environment amid a pandemic. This session focuses on pre- and intra- pandemic comparative results and the evidence supporting implementation of the 6 essential HWE Standards.

Objectives

  • Describe the preliminary findings of the AACN 2021 Registered Nurse Work Environment Survey.
  • Discuss the current state of the health of the critical care nurse work environment in the midst of a pandemic.
  • Recognize the importance of implementation of the 6 Healthy Work Environment Standards.
