Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Acute deterioration of hospitalized patients resulting in unplanned intensive care admissions, unexpected death and/or cardiac arrests is a high-stakes, high-anxiety scenario for APRNs. This novel, highly interactive session utilizes an evolving case study format with choose-your-own-adventure polling questions to equip the APRN with knowledge and strategies to identify patients at risk for deterioration and to accurately and rapidly intervene to improve patient outcomes.

Objectives

  • Formulate a systematic approach to assess and manage patients experiencing an acute clinical change since initial assessment.
  • Develop evaluation and management strategies for a patient exhibiting shock, acute respiratory failure and metabolic disturbance.
  • Determine a management plan for the unstable patient until transfer to a higher level of care or stabilization.
