Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Attendees expand their ability to accurately interpret arterial blood gases (ABG) beyond using arrows, sayings or color blocks to achieve comprehension of the underlying pathophysiology of the imbalance. The session moves beyond comprehension to the development of a plan of care and interventions to correct the acid/base disparity. Bedside critical care nurses who desire elevated knowledge and extended collaborative dialogue with providers may attend, no matter how many years of experience they have.

Objectives

  • Interpret arterial blood gas results accurately.
  • Identify the appropriate interventions to correct acid/base imbalances.
  • Apply the method and tools presented to case studies.
