Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Nurses today are challenged with growing numbers of patients admitted for acute, painful events often complicated by preexisting substance use disorders, chronic pain and behavioral health needs. Obtaining a clear assessment and implementation of an effective analgesic plan can be difficult. Best practices, position papers and regulatory guidelines are applied to case studies to provide appropriate and individualized plans of care.

Objectives

  • Identify challenges in assessing pain and providing analgesia.
  • Describe evidence-based methods of analgesia.
  • Evaluate the effect of the analgesic plan of care.
