In today’s healthcare systems, critical care nurse turnover continues to climb. Strategies to improve nurse retention are essential. This foundational session describes AACN’s Healthy Work Environment Standards and how each relates to patient and nurse outcomes. Further, specific examples of how to implement each standard are reviewed. Finally, we outline ways to convey to your organization how implementing HWE standards can improve nurse retention and promote positive patient outcomes.

Objectives

  • List the six Healthy Work Environment standards.
  • Describe the relationship between AACN’s HWE Standards and patient and nurse outcomes.
  • Implement two to three Health Work Environment strategies.
