The literature consistently shows diverse teams produce better patient outcomes, especially when present in a culture of inclusivity. Additionally, workforce diversity stands to be an important facet in the pursuit of health equity for all. Join this session to gain foundational knowledge that allows you to understand why healthcare workforce diversity and inclusion are important to patient outcomes and learn skills to advocate for it where you practice.

Objectives

  • Describe examples from the literature of how workforce diversity improves patient outcomes.
  • Explain why workforce diversity is an essential element in addressing health disparities and advancing health equity.
  • Summarize which steps can be taken to advocate for increased workforce diversity in healthcare organizations.
